9 Dinner With the Lims

Today, a friend of mine asked me..
"Back at home, your family usually eat luxurious and delicious food right?"



I was reluctant to say Yes, but it's quite true. However, she didn't understand the significant of the word 'dinner' in the Lim's family.



In the normal typical families, dinner is when everyone in the house sit down on the dining table and eat together. Right?



In my house, however, dinner with the family was an 'occasion'.

You see, It's very rare that we get to sit together and eat as a family.
Both my parents stay in our house in Melaka, I'm studying in Penang and my brother works in KL. So the only chance for the four of us to come together is when I'm having holidays and my brother comes home for the weekend (sometimes).



EVEN SO.... Our regular dinner would be :
my mom and dad eating in the dining hall,
my brother eating in front of the computer and
me eating in front of the TV or in my bedroom.

We just don't sit together and eat.



It has been that way for a long time...
Even when my brother and I were still schooling.



Therefore it clarifies why when we sit down together for a family dinner,
it would be quite a feast.



Even if we don't get all dressed up to go to a fancy restaurant, my Mom will cook and set dinner like there's no tomorrow.



I won't lie but the food is super delicious. However, it came with a price (by price I don't mean the bill)
The price is the limited amount of time we have to spend with the family..
and to appreciate simple things such as having dinner with my family in the dining hall.



So to my friend, my answer is Yes,
I DO eat good meals back at home.
but I'd trade it for meals that will satisfy the heart.
